"This application has made me a more proactive manager by allowing me to review important records more efficiently, and by improving my relations with city managers and officials. "
Even though technology has evolved from pen-chart recorders, many of the utilities directors and managers I work with still prefer to see data in the traditional format – in a circular chart. Paper records are so inefficient, though. In the past, I have waited hours to get a requested report. Someone would have to physically go over and search through a mess of charts, all stacked on spindles. There was just no way to file anything. This program has solved many of our issues, though. Using this software, I can go to the exact date and timeframe I need and pull the logs and charts up right from my desk. I can even show our city engineer and city manager how to get date and time-stamped charts from their offices on the other side of the city.
It’s been great to be able to electronically organize and process our records, yet still turn out the documents that everyone is used to seeing. We can pull these charts up in an electronic format and cart them around without having to worry about losing or damaging our only copy. DataNet OPC Professional has helped operations at our facility by preserving the integrity of records, keeping logs more organized, and helping us prepare for state reporting. It's also made me a better manager by allowing me to review important records more efficiently, and by improving my relations with city managers and officials.

"This program has pulled our entire operation together, increasing the accuracy in batch making and raw materials inventory by eliminating 99 percent of the reporting error that was present before."
Before installing this program, we only had one reporting computer, located in the back of our plant lab. If there was a problem and someone had to check the tank levels, they would have to run back and forth until the issue was resolved. A lot of the information we were getting was wrong. Now, anyone can get accurate information, right from their desk or work station. This program has pulled our entire operation together, increasing the accuracy in batch making and raw materials inventory by eliminating 99 percent of the reporting error that was present before.
I keep this information up on my computer all day long, so I always know exactly where our tank levels are. It has been a lifesaver for me and an asset to our plant. In our business, accuracy is key – misreadings are just too expensive.

I really appreciate all the assistance that you have provided. You've provided very fast resolutions to my issues. I have been feeding my Server data every one minute since yesterday afternoon, from the WinPLC on my desk. It has yet to error on any of the WinPLCs again. I'm not sure what the future upgrade paths are for the software, but I would like to be kept informed through e-mail if new issues arise and are taken care of. This way I can keep my software up to date, and keep the data flowing.

"We are using DataWorx to collect the tested parameters and make the information available to whomever requires it, such as quality, engineering or even the customer."
We were tasked with developing a production final tester for a new line of temperature limit controllers. Based on the requirements, we chose a DL205 base and D2-260 CPU with I/O cards - an analog card controls our temperature sensor simulators and allows for a barcode reader and printer. The operator interface is an EZTouch panel. Once we wrote the main program, we just cloned the “recipe” and changed the set-point parameters and I/O requirements for each model. This was quite a programming time-saver. All the operator has to do now is touch one button to change the model being tested. We are using DataWorx to collect the tested parameters and make the information available to whomever requires it, such as quality, engineering or even the customer.
The DL205 and the EZTouch Panel are available through AutomationDirect. Visit www.automationdirect.com for details.
"Once our customer realized he could get data into his PC without a SCADA package, he wanted to go the final mile and put the data directly into his SQL database. Thus the first copy of DataWorx PLC Professional was sold in the UK and has already proved exceptional in its ease of installation and use."
Our customer manufactures large plastic parts through moulding or other processes and had several pen chart recorders in need of replacement. They were used to record whenever a product was made, and with over 50 machines on the factory floor, it was time-consuming to read the data when it was produced on paper rolls. Syzygyn Ltd was asked to propose an alternative solution, which was initially to use DL250 plus DataWorx PLC V1.2, communicating through an H2-ECOM Ethernet module. We would simply feed the existing field cabling into the PLC, develop the communications routines and then, presto! We were in!
However, once the customer realized he could get data into his PC without a SCADA package, he wanted to go the final mile and put the data directly into his SQL database. AutomationDirect advised us that INTEWORX.NET (the developers of DataWorx) was about to launch their latest creation, which indeed would allow data to be sent directly to an ACCESS or SQL database. Thus the first copy of DataWorx PLC Professional was sold in the UK and has already proved exceptional in its ease of installation and use.
The DL205 and the H2-ECOM Ethernet communication module are available through AutomationDirect. Visit www.automationdirect.com for details.

"I think that everyone that uses PLCs for test and measurement, durability testing and manufacturing should take a look at this package. This is something that you should have on-hand. You're going to need it one day."
DataWorx PLC Server and Monitor software is just what I have been looking for. Don't be fooled by its simple, clean looking appearance. That just hides the powerful interface it gives you to communicate with your PLCs over an Ethernet network using Automation Direct E-COM modules and PLCs. The simple sample ladder logic program provided can be modified to fit your needs/wants and it works!
Most of the problems I encountered were due to my own inexperience at using the WX and RX PLC commands, but the sample program provided got me up and running in very little time. It adds so little to your ladder logic that neither you, nor the PLC, will even notice!
I am really excited about this simple, clean looking software! It makes me look like a genius to those who need the information that it records.
The recorded information is well organized, with column headers, and ready to be imported into your favorite spreadsheet or read by a simple text reader. You can configure the Server to record the data, comma or tab delimited, your choice!
By using special relays in the ladder logic, you can control the amount and frequency of your data. The example program provided uses a one-second (SP4) relay to save the data every second. I found that this can also be done with a one-minute (SP3) relay, if you don't want or need as much data.
I think everyone that uses PLCs for test and measurement, durability testing and manufacturing should take a look at this package. This is something that you should have on-hand. You're going to need (want) it one day.
